Hey Friends and Family!
So I titled my email "April Showers" as kind of a joke as really there is no showers (as in rain) in April. It is all SNOW, and below is a funny picture of me tracting in the snow in the middle of April. The great thing about the snow is that it does melt after a couple days so we do not have it for too long. Alaska is pretty much just like Nevada or Arizona just opposite. Instead of getting hot and hotter we have cold and colder. It is just great:) I am sure looking forward to the summer when everything turns green. That is for sure!
This week has been such a great week! The best news of the week is that our investigator Lauri is getting baptized on May 8th and we could not be more excited for her. When we first picked a date for her we were not sure how it would work out, considering she mentioned the Lutheran church and how she still wanted to attend there. But when we went back this past week and really talked to her, we found out that she just wanted to continue to attend that church with her husband Stan, as that is where he is comfortable going. We felt really good about her baptism date as she has been learning since November and is progressing really well. I am really excited for her!
Later that week we also met with Oscar. Before we went to meet with him we had talked a lot about putting him on date for baptism and I was praying really hard to know if that was the right thing to do. When we got there and were in the middle of the lesson, I was not sure that it was. I kept wrestling with the idea of whether or not he was really ready, as he has not received an answer to his prayer, he feels. One thing he said was: "I feel good about everything or I would not continue meeting with you." At that point, a thought came to mind of the lesson we taught at church that week about covenants and to remind him of that lesson. As I brought that up and reminded him, I asked if he would be willing to make a goal to know if he would be willing to make that covenant with his father on May 26th. He willing accepted and said he would pray to know if it was right. I love how the Holy Ghost works and if we continue to use it in our lives we can make those proper decisions and be led to do the work.
This weekend was Stake conference, so we where able to hear Elder Pace of the seventy as he came and talked. He told some funny stories and one of the things that stood out to me is to "be excited" about the gospel. When he was on his mission and he was telling the story of Joseph Smith, the person he was telling it to told him, "You know if this story is really true you should be excited about it because it is an amazing story." That really hit me as I thought - Am I excited as I tell this miraculous story to people and help them understand the gospel? EJ and Ruthann where able to attend conference with us and they both really enjoyed it. Ruthann really made me laugh when she said, "It is so peaceful here. And the person talking really drew me in." Oh how we can learn from others and the small things they do!
We also were blessed to have Zone Conference and be informed by our dear Mission President and his wife. President and Sister Dance are such great people and I am very graetful to have them. Sister Dance was instructing us on health and the importance of keeping our bodies healthy so we can be spiritually capable. I about died when she said to all the missionaries: "Do not worry about how you look in the mirror." (Meaning your bodies, the average weight gain here is 40lb). Yea, I know!!!! At least that is just for the Elders. I am not to sure what it really is for the sisters as they do not dare ask. Anyhow, we can just say we are fed well here.
I hope all of you are doing great, and I love hearing from each of you. I love you all!!
